VEGA BEACH AND ENTREPEÑES DEFILE NATURAL MONUMENT
Description
Vega beach is a beautiful 1,5 km long sandy beach that spreads at the end of the Acebu stream. This vast natural zone conserves a valuable non altered dune ecosystem and some geological and paleontological exceptions. The rocky area on its eastern limit holds some Jurassic layers that are a part of the renowned ‘Dinosaurs Coast’, being the third dinosaur’s footprints site in the district.
Ideal for Surfing and sport Fishing, this beach boasts of being a virgin non altered environment. Available services of the beach include lifeguard, PA system, shower, toilet, parking and restaurants.
The Entrepeñes defile is an unexpected stony panorama carved alternately by the Acebu stream waters and the activity of marine tides. The magnificent geological formations rise up from the course of the river as capricious quartzite pinnacles, and in some cases they soar 60 m high. So that, the mineral ensemble make of this space an amazing natural sculpture.
Beside the road you’ll find a picnic area, with tables and benches, to peacefully enjoy the beauty of the site.
To get from Ribadesella to Vega beach you have to drive 7 km west along N632 road until you find a signposted turn to Vega village on your right. Continuing down the Acebu stream course, you’ll go across the Entrepeñes defile to the old estuary zone where Vega beach spreads.
The longest beach in the district with a virgin system of sand dunes, and an impressive formation of quartzite pinnacles. Both sites have been declared a Natural Monument by the Asturian government.
